about

Nobody asked.... but here you go anywaysss!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Formed in Millville Cape Breton Nova Scotia over late 2002/early 2003, the Teenage Hurricanes were an active part of the Sydney independent music scene for the next couple of years, playing loose'n'messy sets influenced by the likes of Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Sonics, MC5, Ramones, Black Flag, Vibrators, Teenage Head, Teengenerate, Tricky Woo, Guitar Wolf and countless others.

To say these sets were often trainwrecks would be an understatement.

After a string of badly made cassette recordings and allages (and eventually bar) shows often ending earlier than planned due to fuse-blown amplifiers, broken patchcords or forgetting songs entirely, geographical constraints put an end to the band, but not before this single recording session took place at McKenzie College on Townsend Street.

With frontman Rob behind the mixing console, six of the band's 14 originals were chosen due to limited time and - for the exception of the occasional overdub - recorded live on the spot in one or two takes.

When these recordings were finished, the mixes were given what can only be described as "the Guitar Wolf/Teengenerate" treatment for a more accurate portrayal of the messy gonzo live show, courtesy of fellow Millvillian James Gillian. Those were the versions that were available locally as the original six-song CD-R in early 2006.

The original "cleaner" mixes were assumed long gone, until they were recently discovered during a purge of old tapes and CD-Rs. Since this year was the 20th anniversary of the band's first shows, we decided to make a bandcamp for those recordings, complete with an up-to-date remaster from James O'Toole of Outtacontroller!

The performances were far from perfect, but those Maple Leaf Rum-and Cokes made the transition from allages to bar-scene more than worthwhile.

Long live Saturday Bedroom Rock'n'Roll, and apologies to the good people of Shelburne.
